Dog Boarding with Training in Houston
Give your dog daily practice with a trainer while you learn how to maintain the skills at home. Good Daweg's Board & Train programs combine a stay in a home training environment with work on the goals you discuss before booking.
This service includes daily training. If you only need care during a trip, ask about availability and suitability rather than assuming a training program is ordinary vacation boarding.
Compare programs by training focus, owner lessons, and cost before choosing a duration.
Choosing Goals for Your Dog’s Training Stay
In shortPick a few clear priorities and say where the difficulty happens, how often, and what you've tried.
Before comparing program lengths, it helps to know what you actually want the stay to change. Travel dates or a gap in your schedule might be the reason you're looking now, but they don't tell us whether your dog needs foundational skills, everyday obedience, or more involved behavior work.
Choose a few priorities you can describe clearly. "Walk without pulling past the neighbor's driveway" tells us more than "be obedient." Include where the difficulty occurs, how often it happens, and what you've already tried.
Share previous lesson experience and the cues your dog already understands. That helps identify whether the work involves introducing a skill or practicing it around distractions.

Comparing Board & Train Programs
In shortPrograms differ in length, focus and owner lessons, from $1,850 for 10 days; Puppy Board & Train is call for pricing.
Good Daweg's programs differ in length, focus, and the owner lessons built in. Here's how they compare:
- 10-Day Board & Train, starting at $1,850. Focused on foundations: crate familiarity, housebreaking, name response, early commands, confidence, and social exposure. A starting point if the basics still need work.
- 2 Week Board & Train, starting at $2,450. Covers everyday obedience, including leash walking, recall, and greetings, with two midway one-on-one lessons and two refresher lessons included.
- 3 Week Board & Train, starting at $3,465. Builds on those same skills with three midway lessons, three refresher lessons, and a leash and place bed included.
- 4 to 6 Week Board & Train, $4,200 to $6,500. Focused on behavior modification, with weekly midway lessons and multiple refreshers for concerns that need more repetition and time.
- Puppy Board & Train, call for pricing. A separate program built around a young dog's age and daily needs rather than an adult routine.

Matching Board & Train to Your Dog’s Needs
In shortShare how your dog handles strangers, confinement and time away, plus any guarding, bites or strong reactions.
Suitability includes how your dog handles unfamiliar people, confinement, and time away from you. Tell us about previous boarding experiences and any health or mobility concerns that could affect the stay.
Disclose guarding, bites, attempted bites, and strong reactions to people or other dogs. Those details affect precautions and the kind of support needed. Don't recreate an incident for a demonstration.
Puppies usually call for their own conversation. A young dog's age, health, and daily routine shape what's realistic during a stay, and Puppy Board & Train is built around that instead of an adult schedule.
Owner Participation in Boarding and Training
In shortMidway lessons teach you the handling during the stay; everyone at home should agree on cues and follow-through.
Midway lessons let you learn the handling while your dog is still in the program. Confirm which lessons your package includes and when you need to attend.
Ask to understand the cue, the response, and how to reinforce it. You should also know which distractions your dog has practiced around and where the exercise still needs support.
If more than one adult handles your dog day to day, talk about how everyone will use what's being taught:
- Agree on the words. A cue that means one thing to you and something else to a partner or roommate creates confusion once your dog is home.
- Agree on the follow-through. If one person allows something another discourages, the training has a harder time holding up.

Planning Your Houston Board & Train Drop-Off
In shortRestrain your dog for the drive, avoid waits in a parked car, and confirm food, routine and medication notes.
Getting your dog to and from a training stay is part of the arrangement, not an afterthought. Houston BARC recommends secure restraint during vehicle travel, worth planning for on both ends of the trip.
BARC also warns against leaving pets in parked cars. Arrange the handoff before arriving, keep your dog safely restrained during the drive, and avoid an unnecessary wait outside in the heat. Ask about the arrival procedure if your dog is difficult to handle around unfamiliar people.
Beyond the drive, confirm the specifics of your booking rather than relying on a generic packing list, including food, current routine, and any health or medication notes. The clearer that information is going in, the fewer surprises there are once the stay begins.
Dog Boarding with Training, Day Training, or Private Lessons?
In shortDay training skips the overnight stay and private lessons put you in every session; compare the time you can commit.
Boarding isn't the only way to train. The real question is whether you want your dog living with a trainer during the program, or staying home while the work happens around your own schedule.
Day training provides trainer-led work without an overnight stay. Ask about scheduling and handoff arrangements for your dog.
Private lessons put you in the room for every session. You handle your dog directly while a trainer coaches you, and you practice between visits yourself. This format asks more of your time but keeps you closely involved at every step.
Compare the time you can commit to appointments and practice. Board & Train reduces your daily training role during the stay, but you still need time for owner lessons and the transition home.
Owner Lessons After Board & Train
In shortBring specific examples from home; refresher or private lessons are available if skills slip later.
Use follow-up lessons to address what happens in your home. Bring a specific example: the cue you gave, the distraction nearby, and how your dog responded.
Bring specific situations to that conversation. A cue that worked reliably during the stay might need extra reinforcement the first time your dog hears it on your own street instead of ours. That's a normal part of the transition, not a sign that something went wrong.
If things start to slip weeks or months later, refresher lessons are available to revisit skills that need a tune-up. If you'd like ongoing, hands-on coaching beyond what's included with your program, private lessons let you keep working directly with a trainer at your own pace.

Boarding With Training FAQs
Is it okay to send my dog away for training?
It can be appropriate when your dog's health, temperament, and needs fit the program. Discuss the daily care, training methods, and owner involvement before committing. Share any difficulty with separation or unfamiliar handlers. If a stay doesn't suit your dog, ask about private lessons at home.
Is boarding with training worth it?
That depends on what's included, not just how many days your dog is away. Good Daweg's programs differ in focus and in the midway and refresher lessons built into each one, so two programs at different price points aren't simply the same service at different lengths. Compare the Board & Train options against the everyday skills you actually want, whether that's an easier walk, a calmer greeting, or a more reliable recall, rather than assuming length alone tells you what you're getting.
What if my dog finds boarding stressful?
Tell us before booking if your dog struggles with time away from you or has had a rough boarding experience before. We can talk through the proposed care and whether a training stay makes sense right now, or whether a different format is a better place to start. Significant separation-related distress is also worth discussing with your veterinarian. A training stay isn't a fix for that on its own, and it shouldn't be treated as one.
Discuss your dog's training stay
You don't need to choose a duration before contacting us. Describe your goals and your dog's history so we can discuss suitable options and the owner lessons involved.
