4–6 Week Board & Train in Houston
Good Daweg's 4–6 Week Board & Train provides daily training and owner coaching for more involved behavior concerns. Your dog stays in a home training environment, with weekly midway lessons to help you learn the handling. The program ranges from $4,200 to $6,500.
Choosing the longest program isn't a given just because a concern feels serious. Some dogs and households do better with a shorter stay plus follow-up lessons, or with private lessons and no residential stay at all. The right starting point comes out of a real conversation about your dog, not a fixed rule tied to how long a behavior has been happening.
Request a consultation to talk through whether this program fits your dog.
Discussing Your Dog’s Behavior Before a Training Stay
In shortDescribe what happens and where, and tell us about any bite history before choosing a length.
Before choosing a duration, describe what happens, where it happens, and who or what is nearby. Include how often the behavior occurs, how long it takes your dog to settle afterward, and what you currently do to prevent another incident.
Bite history and attempted bites matter here, even if they happened once or seem minor in hindsight. That information shapes whether this program is appropriate, what precautions we discuss, and whether a veterinary or behavioral consult should happen first. Please don't try to demonstrate the behavior by provoking your dog before a visit. A clear description, along with what you've already tried, gives us something real to work from.

Choosing a Board & Train Duration for Your Dog
In shortLonger isn't automatically better; some dogs do well with a shorter stay plus lessons.
The shorter 10-day, two-week, and three-week programs focus on foundations and obedience. The 4-6 week option allows a longer period for behavioral work, with suitability and duration discussed individually. Choosing six weeks does not guarantee a particular result.
More time can be useful when a dog needs more repetition across more situations, or when a household wants a slower, steadier pace of change. It isn't the only path to that outcome, and a shorter program paired with private lessons at home may suit some dogs just as well. We'll talk about what your dog is working on and how much practice that work realistically takes before recommending a length.
Weekly Owner Lessons During Board & Train
In shortWeekly lessons during the stay teach you the handling before your dog comes home.
Weekly midway one-on-one lessons keep you involved during the stay. You can learn the cues, handling, and precautions your dog is practicing before you're responsible for maintaining them at home.
These lessons are where you learn the actual mechanics: how a cue is given, what the response should look like, and where the exercise still needs support. Ask what's been practiced so far and what hasn't been introduced yet. A demonstration that looks smooth in front of a trainer doesn't tell you much if you don't know how to ask for it yourself. Confirm the schedule and format planned for your dog's stay when you book, since a household with young kids or other pets may need a slightly different conversation than one without.
Refresher Lessons After Your Dog Returns Home
In shortMultiple refresher lessons, plus a leash and a place bed.
The package includes multiple refresher lessons, a leash, and a place bed. Confirm the follow-up schedule when booking. Refresher sessions give you support as you practice around familiar household distractions that may differ from the training setting.
A refresher lesson isn't a sign the training failed. It's a chance to walk through a specific situation, a greeting that went sideways, a walk where your dog reverted to old habits, and figure out what's missing. If your dog's concern involved any safety risk, keep the same management and precautions in place at home until you and your dog have practiced the response together in the settings where it actually needs to hold up.

Behavior Training and Houston Public-Space Rules
In shortTraining doesn't lift Houston's park rules, and a dog park isn't the place to test progress.
Houston's dog park rules require owners to keep verbal and sight control of their dogs and prevent aggressive behavior, biting, fighting, and aggressive barking. Dogs with a known history of dangerous behavior aren't permitted, and owners are expected to leash up and leave immediately if their dog behaves aggressively. Outside those off-leash areas, Houston parks require a leash at all times.
Completing training does not erase those restrictions or make a dog park an appropriate place to test progress. For a dog with aggression concerns, a successful outing may mean a quiet, leashed walk with enough space to avoid unwanted contact. Discuss suitable locations with your trainer and keep the agreed safety precautions in place.
Comparing Extended Board & Train Options
In shortPrograms run from $1,850 to $6,500; length is one factor, not a guaranteed result.
Here's how Good Daweg's board and train pricing compares across program length:
- 10-Day Board & Train: starts at $1,850
- 2-Week Board & Train: starts at $2,450
- 3-Week Board & Train: starts at $3,465
- 4-6 Week Board & Train: $4,200 to $6,500
Puppy Board & Train is priced separately; call to discuss options for a young puppy. None of these tiers include a guaranteed skill set tied strictly to their length. Duration is one factor in the conversation, alongside your dog's current behavior, your household, and what you're hoping to change.
If a residential stay isn't the right fit, private lessons and our behavior modification page both describe non-residential paths that may address the same concerns. We're glad to talk through the differences before you commit to a program.
Owner Coaching After a Longer Training Stay
In shortCoaching helps you use what your dog practiced in daily walks, greetings and visits.
The training stay is one part of your dog's life, not the whole of it. Once your dog is home, you're the one handling the daily walks, the greetings at the door, and the quieter moments in between. Owner coaching is where you learn to actually use what your dog has practiced, rather than hoping it holds up on its own.
Bring specific situations to these conversations: a walk that didn't go well, a visitor your dog struggled with, a moment where you weren't sure what to ask for. That kind of detail is more useful than a general update. If you want ongoing, structured practice beyond what's included with your program, private lessons offer individual sessions and multi-lesson packages you can use to keep building on the work.

Longer-Program FAQs
Can an aggressive dog attend board-and-train?
Sometimes, depending on the dog and the situation. Acceptance isn't automatic just because a dog has shown aggression, and it requires an honest conversation first about triggers, history, and any injuries involved. In some cases, veterinary or behavioral support should happen alongside or before a residential stay. Tell us what you've observed and we'll talk through whether this program, a different one of ours, or outside support makes the most sense. Our aggressive dog training page covers this concern in more depth.
Can a longer training stay eliminate aggression?
No program can promise that aggression disappears for good. A longer stay allows more practice, but appropriate precautions may remain necessary. The Merck Veterinary Manual explains that medical issues can contribute to behavior problems and that treatment needs to address the individual case. Discuss sudden changes with your veterinarian as well as describing them to your trainer.
Does board-and-train work for reactive dogs?
It can be one option, depending on what triggers the reaction and how your household is set up. For some dogs, reactive dog training through private lessons is a better fit than a residential stay, since it lets you practice directly in the situations that matter. We'll talk through both paths, including how owner lessons during a stay would support your role in the work, before recommending one.
Discuss your dog's training stay
You don't need to have the right program picked out before you call. Tell us what's happening with your dog, what a better week together would look like, and we'll talk through whether a 4-6 week stay, a shorter program, or a different service altogether makes sense.
