3 Week Board & Train in Houston
Build on your dog's obedience with daily practice and time to learn the handling yourself. Good Daweg's 3 Week Board & Train includes training in a home environment, public-space practice, three midway owner lessons, and three refresher lessons. Pricing starts at $3,465.
The program gives you more time for extended obedience than the two-week option. If your dog also guards items, reacts strongly on walks, or has a bite history, discuss those concerns before choosing a stay. Suitability needs an individual assessment. Request a consultation to compare the options for your dog.
Your Dog’s Starting Point for Obedience Training
In shortTraining starts from what your dog does now, in the situations that matter to you.
Every three-week stay starts by finding out what your dog already knows and where that knowledge breaks down. A dog might sit reliably in the kitchen but ignore the same cue on a walk. Another might need the basics built from scratch before anything else makes sense. Tell us what your dog does now, in the situations that matter to you, rather than a list of commands you'd like checked off.
Mention any previous training and the cues your dog already uses. Include health changes, trouble with unfamiliar handlers, and any safety precautions you currently take. Don't provoke a reaction to show us the problem; a description of what happened is a safer starting point.

Extended Obedience for Everyday Life
In shortMore practice on attention, recall, leash walking and staying put around distractions.
Three weeks gives your dog more opportunities to practice attention, recall, leash walking, and holding a position around manageable distractions. These skills can help with waiting at a doorway, passing people on a sidewalk, or settling while you stop to talk. Progress depends on your dog's starting point and the conditions of the exercise.
Public-space work still has limits. A dog practicing calm behavior around distractions is not the same as a dog cleared for unrestricted freedom. Ask how the training team describes the conditions a skill has been practiced under, so you know what to expect when you take your dog into a busier or less familiar setting than the ones used during training.
Three Midway Owner Lessons During Board & Train
In shortThree lessons during the stay, one more than the 2-week program.
The three-week program includes three midway one-on-one lessons, one more than the two included with the 2 Week Board & Train. These sessions happen while your dog is still in the program, and they give you a chance to see the training in progress and ask questions while there's still time left in the stay to apply the answers.
Watching a trainer handle a cue and handling it yourself are two different skills. The midway lessons are where you start closing that gap, well before your dog comes home and you're the only one giving the instructions. If more than one person in your household will be working with the dog, use this time to get everyone using the same words and the same expectations.
Board & Train Refresher Lessons and Equipment
In shortThree refresher lessons after pickup, plus a leash and a place bed.
The package includes three refresher lessons after your dog comes home, along with a leash and a place bed. You can use the refresher sessions to work on transferring skills into your household routine.
Use the owner lessons to practice directing your dog to the place bed, reinforcing the stay, and releasing them. At home, choose a location where your dog can rest without being crowded. Ask how to introduce duration and distractions gradually, rather than expecting the bed to keep your dog settled through a busy gathering immediately.
Keep the included equipment accessible at home, and ask how to fit and use it before leaving with your dog. Comfortable handling matters as much as knowing which cue to say.

Dog Obedience and Houston Outing Rules
In shortTraining doesn't change park rules; most Houston parks and preserves require a leash.
Training doesn't change the rules of a public space. The Houston Arboretum's visitor guidance requires dogs to stay leashed and on the trails, with pets excluded from the Nature Playscape and owners responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Rules like that are common at parks and preserves around Houston, and they're a good example of why leash manners are a practical skill, not just training-program language.
A dog who's made progress on loose-leash walking or calm greetings during a training stay is still a dog on a leash at most Houston public spaces. The realistic goal is a more cooperative walk and easier handling within those rules, not off-leash access somewhere it was never allowed.
Comparing Board & Train Lengths and Inclusions
In shortLength changes practice time and owner support, not just nights away.
Length isn't just about more nights away. It's about how much practice time and owner support come with the program. Here's how the current packages compare:
- 10-Day Board & Train: starts at $1,850. The shortest stay, best suited to foundational obedience work.
- 2 Week Board & Train: starts at $2,450, with 2 refresher lessons and 2 midway one-on-one lessons.
- 3 Week Board & Train: starts at $3,465, with 3 refresher lessons, 3 midway one-on-one lessons, and a leash and place bed included.
- 4-6 Week Board & Train: ranges from $4,200 to $6,500 for more involved behavioral modification, with suitability assessed individually.
More weeks isn't automatically the better choice. The right length depends on what your dog needs to work through and how much owner involvement the concern calls for. Visit our Board & Train hub to compare every option side by side, or request a consultation to talk through which one fits.
Owner Lessons After Your Dog’s Training Stay
In shortBring the specific moments that trip you up at home to your refresher lessons.
Coming home is the start of a new routine, not the end of the work. Owners who've been through a training stay often find the real learning curve is in the weeks after, once you're the one giving the cues without a trainer standing next to you. The three refresher lessons included with this program are built for exactly that stretch.
Bring the specific moments that trip you up: a greeting that went sideways, a walk where the old pulling crept back, a cue that worked yesterday and not today. That's more useful to a refresher lesson than a general update. If you want ongoing practice beyond what's included, private lessons are available separately, with individual sessions and 5-, 8-, and 12-lesson packages to keep building on what your dog learned during the stay.

Three-Week Program FAQs
What should I consider when comparing board-and-train value?
Compare daily training, owner instruction, equipment, and follow-up alongside the total price. Ask what you will practice yourself and how help continues after pickup. Also consider your ability to attend the included lessons; owner support only helps if you can make use of it.
Should I send my dog away for training?
It depends on your dog and how much daily, hands-on practice the goal actually requires. A stay works well when a dog needs consistent daily repetition that's hard to fit around a work schedule, but it still relies on you learning to carry the training home afterward. If you'd rather be present for every lesson from day one, private lessons let you learn alongside your dog instead. Either way, share your dog's health history and behavior around unfamiliar people or dogs before deciding.
What age is best for board-and-train?
There isn't one right age for every dog. Readiness depends more on health, temperament, and what you're hoping the stay will address than on a birthday. This three-week program is built around obedience and behavior work rather than early puppy routines, so if your dog is very young, ask about Puppy Board & Train instead, and we can talk through which fits your dog's stage best.
Discuss your dog's training stay
Tell us what you'd like to improve and how much time you can set aside for owner lessons. We'll help you compare the three-week program with the other options.
