Wow! What a difference a great trainer makes! Wesley has a systematic approach to training dogs that is balanced and effective. We have been amazed at the consistent progress and change in our huge doodle Steve. Wesley communicates very well and is straightforward and honest with us as owners too, which has helped us to continue the effective training that he is employing with our big guy. I could not recommend a trainer more highly than Wesley!

I heard of Good DaweG through a coworker, so I gave Wesley a call to work with my minature Bernedoodle. Wesley shared the options that he had and we signd up for 7 private lessons. He was flexible with his schedule and gave great tips/training for me and my dog. Searching for a trainer is difficult becasue you never know if they will be the right fit. My dog already knew basic commands but really needed that extra step in her training. Wesley went above and beyond for her and we quickly saw great improvements in her leash walking, recall and reactivity. Wesley is professional, a great communicator and I would hihgly recommend him for anyone looking to train their dog. Choose Good DaweG!

I was referred to Wesley by a friend and I’m so happy to have met him. We did a few private lessons and a 5 day board & train for our miniature Sheepadoodle. I could not recommend enough!!! From the moment he met our dog, he had an impact on her. The 5 day board & train really enforced everything that we had been practicing during our private lessons. She came back so well behaved and he taught us how to continue what she had learned into the future. We get compliments all the time on how well behaved she is!!! Wesley is extremely professional and communicative. We got pictures (attached to the review) everyday during the board & train, as well as an update phone call at the end of the day. I felt very safe leaving her with him. We highly recommend Good Daweg!!!!

I recently rescued a pit mix from the shelter. He is a sweet dog but over time developed some bad manners (jumping and nipping due to curiosity and excitement). Our walks are not great either. He pulls and get very fixated on things. I live in an apartment complex in close proximity with people. I dread taking him out and even started developing anxiety each time we go on walks. My dog Remy is not food motivated so it was very difficult to train him. Wesley did a great job with Remy. I did the 5 day program and our walks are so much more pleasant (like night and day). He heels by my side now and sit when I ask. “Leave it” has also been very helpful as he is curious with everything. Those commands made a world of a difference on our walks. Seeing more structure in my dog (which was needed) really gave me more confidence as his owner. It was a great training experience for me as well, I was able to reflect and correct what I needed to change. I am very thankful for Wesley. He is a honest person. During the training he kept me informed on the progress through videos and phone calls. Active communication which is very much appreciated. I am very glad to have an effective trainer and someone I can trust for any future behavioral problems my dog may encounter. Thank you Wesley, you are amazing!

Wesley was amazing and I’d recommend him to anyone! Yesterday was our first private lesson with Wesley and I was so impressed with how he handled my pup. I have already seen improvements in my dog and it was her first night to sleep through the night since I’ve had her. Wesley is a life saver and I can’t wait for our next lesson!

Wesley is an awesome trainer. You can see that he has a true passion for what he does. We sent our 2 year chocolate lab - Charlie for the 10 day board & training program. My husband and I are happy we made the investment. Charlie is doing great and follows directions a lot better. Wesley will give you updates and include pics and videos of your pup through the training process. It was a great experience. Highly recommend Wesley!

What is the best method to train a dog?

Dogs are some of the most loyal and loving creatures on the planet. They make great pets and provide companionship for their owners. However, dogs need to be trained properly in order to ensure that they behave well and don’t become a nuisance or danger to society. Many dog owners rely on punishment-based methods to train their dogs, which can lead to behavioral issues in the future. Balanced dog training uses positive reinforcement techniques along with occasional discipline as needed. It is, after all, still an animal, and animals all have unique personalities that require different tactics. This approach results in a well-behaved dog who knows his place in the family and is happy and content. There are many different ways to train your dog. You can sign up for classes at a local pet store, hire a professional trainer, or even do it yourself. However, not all methods are created equal. Some methods, such as those based on punishment, can actually do more harm than good. That’s why it’s important to incorporate positive reinforcement when training your dog. Positive reinforcement is an aspect of dog training that rewards good behavior and ignores bad behavior. This method is based on the notion that dogs will repeat behaviors that are rewarded and stop behaviors that are ignored. Here at Good DaweG dog training in Houston, TX, we not only implement constructive behavior shaping during instruction, but we also personally show dog owners exactly how to continue these practices at home. With a balance between discipline and constructive behavior molding, your dog can learn to become a well-behaved family member. Contact us today to learn more about how you can help your dog understand and fulfill its role in the family.

Dog training style at Good Daweg

Most dog trainers use one of two methods when training dogs: positive reinforcement or dominance-based training. While both methods can be successful, they each have their drawbacks. Positive reinforcement can be ineffective if the dog is not motivated by rewards, while dominance-based training can be harsh and lead to behavioral problems.

Good DaweG uses a balanced approach to dog training that combines positive reinforcement with constructive dog training techniques. This approach is more effective than other trainers’ methods because it takes into account each dog’s individual personality and motivation. It also results in fewer behavioral problems and an overall reduction in anxiety amongst dogs we train. Wesley has spent nearly a decade of his life committed to understanding dogs and developing a training method that is personalized to each animal individually. He assesses the needs and requirements that each pup has and works step by step to achieve the desired goals each owner has with their pet.

One of the things that separates our services from others is not only the end result—an obedient, happy dog—but also the journey we take to get there. We believe the best way to train a dog is by building a bond of trust and respect. This mutual relationship ensures that your dog will want to please you and listen to your commands. Constructive dog training involves understanding how dogs think, feel, and learn. Dogs are not humans, and they do not think like humans. Therefore, trainers must use techniques that are based on how dogs learn. Constructive dog training also takes into account a dog’s individual personality and temperament. This type of training is more effective because it is tailored specifically to each dog. Whatever the case may be, you can rest assured knowing that you can count on us. Good DaweG is always here to help!

Is it worth getting a trainer for a dog?

This is a great question! The value of the course depends on how committed an owner is to their animal. By working with one of our professionals here at Good Daweg in Houston, you will begin to effectively shape the behavior of your dog in as little as two weeks. At the end of your course, you will understand exactly how to instruct and communicate with your dog, as well as how to continue shaping and cultivating that relationship with your dog. You will also have the opportunity to schedule a private lesson with one of our trainers so that we can help you implement the knowledge in an effective and healthy manner.

We offer obedience training in the form of private lessons for dogs who have been through a comprehensive training session with us. These private lessons are ideal for owners who want to be more involved in their dog’s training or for dogs who need a little extra attention. With private lessons, you will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with our trainer, Wesley Dawe, and he will tailor the lessons to your dog’s specific needs. These private sessions usually last for about an hour, and we recommend that you schedule one per week for best results. Ultimately, the value of this cannot be put into dollars. It is a priceless commodity to have a well-behaved, dedicated, and loyal pet. If you’re looking for a more general overview of how to train your dog, we recommend checking out our blog or contacting us today. How many training sessions does a dog need?

Dogs typically need around 10-12 training sessions to learn a new behavior using a balanced training method. Of course, this number may vary depending on the dog’s breed, age, and temperament. It’s important to be patient and keep rewarding your dog for its successes along the way. There are many different techniques that can be used to train a dog. Examples include treats, petting, and verbal praise as rewards for obeying their commands. It’s important to find what works best for your dog and stick with it throughout the training process. Our dog trainer will help you understand exactly how to implement these processes so that your dog continues to grow in a healthy way. If you’re in Houston, Texas, and need a dog trainer near you, then reach out to Good DaweG today to learn more about our dog training options!

The dangers of harsh punishment-based training methods

One of the dangers of harsh punishment-based training methods is that they can actually lead to aggression in dogs. When dogs are subjected to physical punishment or even just verbal scolding, they can start to associate any kind of human interaction with fear and pain. This can lead to higher anxiety in dogs and cause them to become aggressive as a way of defending themselves from potential harm. Another danger of harsh punishment-based training methods is that they can actually be quite ineffective. If a dog is constantly punished for incorrect behavior, he may start to become afraid of humans and will be less likely to respond to commands. In contrast, a balanced training method that uses positive reinforcement coupled with occasional discipline when needed, is much more effective, as it teaches dogs that good behavior is rewarded with positive attention. This makes dogs more likely to want to please their owners and respond to commands, which allows your pet to rise to their intended role within their family. If you’re looking for a way to train your dog that is both effective and enjoyable, then contact Good DaweG in Houston, TX. With the right training instruction, you can teach your dog the behaviors that you want without resorting to severe punishment, and we would be happy to show you how!

When should you start training your dog?

Training your dog should commence as soon as you bring them home. It is important to start out with basic commands and then move on to more difficult ones as your dog masters each one. Using positive reinforcement when your dog follows a command will help them to learn faster and make the training process more enjoyable for both of you.

Some basic commands that every dog should know are sit, stay, come, down, and heel. Learning these basic commands will give you a good foundation to work with when teaching your dog more difficult tricks or commands. When using positive reinforcement, it is important to use healthy treats that your dog really enjoys. This will help to keep their attention focused on you and the task at hand. It is also important to give them praise and petting when they do something correctly. This will let them know that they are doing a good job and will help to encourage them to continue trying.

If you find that your dog is not responding well to positive reinforcement, it is important to remain patient. Some dogs take longer to learn than others and some may require a different approach altogether. If you feel like you are not making any progress, contact us at Good Daweg and ask to consult with our professional trainer who can help you tailor a dog training program specifically for your dog. Training your dog should be a fun and enjoyable experience for both of you! With patience and perseverance, you will be able to teach your dog anything you want them to know. How can I teach my dog for free?

There are a number of different ways to train your dog. One popular method is called clicker training. With this method, you use a small hand-held device that makes a clicking sound to mark desired behaviors. When your dog performs the behavior you have marked, you immediately follow the click with a treat or verbal praise. This positive reinforcement lets your dog know that he is doing something right and encourages him to continue the behavior.

Another common technique is known as shaping. This involves rewarding your dog for getting closer and closer to the desired behavior. For example, if you want your dog to sit down, you would first reward him for standing still. Once he understands that standing still is what you want, you would then start rewarding him only when he sits down. Eventually, your dog will learn that sitting down is the desired behavior and he will do it without being rewarded.

There are many other techniques you can use to train your dog. However, these two methods are some of the most common and effective. If you’re not sure how to get started, then we highly recommend reaching out to our team here at Good Daweg in Houston, TX! We offer a wide array of options for those in need of assistance with training their dogs, ranging from weekly dog training classes to Board & Train dog training options. Whatever your needs are, our professional dog trainers are here to help every step of the way. Remember, the key to successful dog training is using positive reinforcement techniques. By rewarding your dog for good behavior, you’ll encourage him to continue behaving in the desired way. Ultimately, this will lead to a well-behaved dog who is happy and content.
